Kathmandu, September 15: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping have told Russian President Vladimir Putin that they are ready to help end the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The Kremlin, the office of the Russian president, said on Monday that Modi and Xi had offered Putin their help in ending the Russia-Ukraine war. The Kremlin said Putin had responded positively to the proposal, according to the Indian media.
According to Reuters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the discussion took place on the sidelines of the BRICS summit held in New Delhi. He said Russia would welcome it if any country used its influence to encourage Ukraine to show greater flexibility.
Russia has said it is ready to resume peace talks, but has demanded full control of the remaining part of the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine as a condition. Ukraine has continued to reject such conditions.
Earlier this month, Putin had also expressed the possibility of reaching a peace agreement. However, he said that the resolution of the war would ultimately have to be worked out by Russia and Ukraine themselves.
