Kathmandu, September 14: Today, Hindu women are observing Haritalika Teej, a major festival, praying for everlasting marital happiness and good fortune.
Observed on the third day of the bright fortnight of the month of Bhadra, the festival has a tradition of married and unmarried women fasting and worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Married women traditionally observe the Teej fast while praying for the long life of their husbands.
Unmarried young men and women also observe the Teej fast based on the scriptural belief that doing so will help them find a spouse with good qualities.
Women devotees clad in red traditional sarees, visit Pashupatinath Temple. Considering the crowd, the Pashupatinath Temple management has kept opened four doors of the temple from 3 a.m. today.
There is a religious belief that observing a fast and worshipping and praying to Shiva and Parvati on the third day of the bright fortnight of Bhadra brings family happiness, peace and prosperity.
