Kathmandu, September 14: Traffic will resume fully from September 17 on the Krishnabhir section of the Naubise–Muglin stretch of the Prithvi Highway in Dhading, which was disrupted by flooding in the Trishuli River.
Traffic on the section had been disrupted since August 30 after the flood washed away about 100 metres of road in the Krishnabhir area. The Department of Roads said the road has reached a stage where traffic can resume after it constructed a new track and proceeded with road restoration work.
The Department of Roads conducted a trial on Sunday by operating vehicles carrying passengers. As the trial showed that vehicles could safely operate on the road, preparations are underway to open the highway to the general public from September 17.
Senior Divisional Engineer Sajana Adhikari, chief of the western section of the Naubise–Muglin Project under the Prithvi Highway, said on Monday that trials would continue and essential vehicles, including gas bullet tankers, would also be allowed to operate.
According to the Department of Roads, necessary tests are being conducted regarding the condition of the track under construction, the feasibility of traffic operation and safety. Construction and restoration work will continue alongside the reopening of the road.
At Krishnabhir, the slope alongside the road was diverted, and a new track measuring 252 metres in length and 10 metres in width was constructed. The department said the construction of this track has made it possible to reopen the highway.
The department has urged all concerned agencies and stakeholders to comply with notices issued during the road restoration and construction works, as well as instructions regarding alternative routes.
