The government is set to provide financial assistance for housing and essential expenses to families in the Bhotekoshi area who were displaced by the devastating flood that struck on Bhadau 10.

A Cabinet meeting held last Thursday decided to provide funds to flood-affected families to cover house rent and other necessary expenses until permanent housing is completed. Minister for Communications Bikram Timilsina provided information about the decision.
Under the government’s decision, a family of up to four members will receive Rs 15,000 per month. For families with more than four members, an additional Rs 2,000 per month will be provided for each additional member.
Minister Timilsina said that families that do not wish to receive cash assistance will have the option of having the government arrange temporary accommodation until permanent housing is constructed.
He said forms have already been sent to all concerned local governments to collect the necessary details for providing the assistance.
The government said it has completed the preliminary assessment of the damage and losses caused by the flood. A detailed needs assessment is currently underway, Minister Timilsina said.
The government said reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-affected areas would be expedited by securing the necessary resources based on the details obtained from the detailed assessment.
