Kathmandu, Sept 13: The death toll from the flood that struck Tibet on August 26 has reached 43 on the Chinese side.
China’s state-owned broadcaster CGTN reported that 43 bodies had been recovered as of Friday.
Two people were rescued alive from the flood-affected area, while 519 people remain unaccounted for, according to CGTN. Among those missing are 261 people from 23 countries.
Search operations are continuing, Chinese authorities said.
A massive flood triggered after an ice and rock mass broke away in the upper reaches and entered the Lhende River caused extensive damage on the Nepali side.
As of Friday evening, 1,386 people had died, and 5,130 remained missing in the disaster in Nepal.
China has also been sending assistance for search, rescue and relief operations following the floods and landslides.
According to CGTN, China has provided a tunnel rescue team, DNA experts, essential supplies and 320 tonnes of Bailey bridge equipment.
