Kathmandu, Sept 9: The fourth batch of relief supplies sent by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for flood victims in Nepal has arrived in Kathmandu. The shipment, weighing 38 tonnes, was delivered under the UAE’s humanitarian assistance campaign. With this latest consignment, the UAE has provided a total of 186 tonnes of relief supplies to Nepal.
The fourth batch includes 500 tents and 108 relief packages. The UAE has been providing food, shelter, medical supplies, and other essential relief and logistical items.
“Necessary supplies are also being sourced from local markets in coordination with Nepali authorities to ensure that assistance reaches affected areas quickly,” the UAE Embassy in Kathmandu said in a statement.
The embassy said a Dubai Police search and rescue team has been continuing its operations in flood and landslide affected areas using advanced equipment and technology. The relief campaign is being conducted under the leadership of Dr Hamoud Al Afari, head of the UAE relief campaign.
After the Bhotekoshi River flood in Rasuwa on August 26 caused extensive loss of life and property, the UAE announced emergency relief assistance worth $10 million, equivalent to Rs 1.52 billion, to Nepal. In line with the announcement, the UAE has been providing relief supplies to flood victims in Nepal.
