Korala becomes alternate route for Nepal-China trade

Kathmandu, September 6: After disruption of the Rasuwagadhi–Kerung road section by floods and landslides in Rasuwa, the Chinese government also closed the Tatopani border pass. As a result, Nepali citizens and vehicles stranded in China have started being brought into Nepal through the Korala border pass in Mustang.

According to the concerned authorities, officials from both countries are providing the necessary facilitation to allow Nepali citizens, goods and vehicles brought from Kerung through China’s Tibet region, via the Dhongmashen and Lichi border points, to enter Nepal through Korala.

With movement affected at both the Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani border passes, Korala has now begun to be used as an alternative route for Nepal–China movement and trade. This arrangement has not only immediately facilitated the rescue and movement of Nepalis stranded in China but has also strengthened the possibility of establishing Mustang’s Korala border crossing as a strategic route for trade, tourism and international movement in the future. However, due to the altitude, Korala pass cannot be operated during the winter season.
