Kathmandu, September 6: More than 87,000 LPG cylinders have been brought into Kathmandu via alternative routes over the past three days after the road at Krishnabhir in Dhading along the Prithvi Highway subsided. According to the Nepal Oil Corporation, a total of 87,877 cylinders were brought to Kathmandu after being refilled at plants operated by 18 different companies in Bara, Parsa, Makwanpur, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Dhanusha and Mahottari.
NOC spokesperson Manoj Thakur said that 24,494 cylinders entered the Kathmandu Valley on Bhadra 18, 34,134 on Bhadra 19, and 29,249 on Bhadra 20. After the main highway was blocked, the corporation arranged to maintain the supply of petroleum products and LPG to Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas through alternative routes.
On Bhadra 14, fuel tankers and gas bullets carrying fuel and LPG had been stranded on the road after the Prithvi Highway was blocked at Krishnabhir due to erosion caused by the Trishuli River. The corporation subsequently arranged for LPG cylinders filled at plants in the Tarai to be transported to Kathmandu using alternative routes. To facilitate the supply of LPG, the corporation has also instructed gas companies to maintain regular refilling and transportation operations even on public holidays.
