Clash among prisoners compels authorities to remove 19 inmates

Biratnagar, Sept 5: A clash broke out among inmates at Morang District Jail in Biratnagar-8 on Friday afternoon.

Morang police chief Kabit Katwal said 19 inmates were removed from the jail following the clash.

According to Katwal, all 19 inmates were from Block B. The clash erupted after one group accused the faction led by jail trustee Bishal Niraula of torturing inmates and extorting money.

Police had previously been prohibited from entering Block B. When police entered the block, a group of inmates protested and chanted slogans.

Katwal said the situation at the jail had returned to normal after the 19 inmates were removed on Friday.

He added that the inmates taken out of the jail have been transferred to other facilities.
