
Kathmandu, September 4: Jensen Huang, founder and chief executive officer of world-renowned American technology company NVIDIA, has provided a donation of US$ 10 million (more than Rs 1.5 billion) to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund in Nepal.
The amount will be provided for rescue and reconstruction efforts in flood-affected areas, including the Bhotekoshi river basin in Rasuwa.
Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle confirmed the donation through an official video message and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Huang on behalf of the Government of Nepal. Wagle said Jensen’s contribution would also inspire others to come forward with assistance.
The donation is considered one of the largest contributions received so far from any multinational company or individual for flood and landslide relief efforts.
According to Finance Minister Wagle, following NVIDIA’s historic contribution, the total amount collected in the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund has surpassed Rs 10 billion.
The funds will be used for immediate relief, rehabilitation of displaced people, and reconstruction of infrastructure in flood-affected districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, it has been stated.
