Kathmandu, Aug 30: The government’s decision to declare 15 local units in five districts severely affected by the Bhotekoshi flood as “disaster crisis zones” has been published in the Nepal Gazette.
The declaration will remain in effect for three months. The 15 local units include four in Rasuwa, four in Nuwakot, four in Dhading, two in Tanahun and one in Gorkha.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the notice in the Nepal Gazette, exercising powers granted under Section 32(1) of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, 2017.
The crisis-affected areas in Rasuwa are Uttargaya, Gosainkunda, Kalika and Amachhodingmo rural municipalities. In Nuwakot, they are Bidur Municipality, Belkotgadhi Municipality, Kispang Rural Municipality and Tarkeshwar Rural Municipality.
In Dhading, the designated areas are Galchhi, Siddhalek, Gajuri and Benighat Rorang rural municipalities. In Tanahun, Devghat and Aanbukhaireni rural municipalities have been declared crisis zones, while Gandaki Rural Municipality has been designated in Gorkha.
The gazette notice states that the decision was taken after the devastating flood in Bhotekoshi, Lhende, along the Nepal-China border caused extensive damage in the local units of the five districts.
The declaration of these areas as disaster crisis zones will make it legally easier for the government to prioritise relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas.
