Kathmandu, Aug 28: Floods, landslides and heavy rainfall have disrupted traffic on several major highways across Nepal, according to a Nepal Police update issued at 7:20 am Friday. Traffic has been completely halted on some routes, while nighttime restrictions are in place on others.
On the BP Highway section from Khurkot to Nepalthok and Katunjebesi, vehicles are barred from operating between 6 pm and 4 am due to flood risks. Traffic is allowed from 4 am to 6 pm.
The Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur remains closed to all vehicles from 5 pm to 5 am until further notice. On Nuwakot’s Tokha Chhahare road, public and private vehicles, except those providing essential services, are prohibited from operating between 10 pm and 5 am.
The Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam is completely blocked by mud, with an alternative route available. The Trishuli Mailung Syafrubesi road is blocked at Khalte, Rasuwa, after the Trishuli River eroded the road.
The Jajarkot Dolpa section of the Bheri Corridor is blocked at Rijegard Khola in Rukum West by rocks, soil and mud. The Shaheed Highway is also blocked at Kungri in Rolpa following a landslide.
Authorities have halted traffic until further notice on roads around the Trishuli River, including the Galchhi Syafrubesi section of the Prithvi Highway and the Muglin Narayanghat route, amid flood risks from Rasuwa.
The Prithvi Highway remains blocked in both directions at several points in Dhading. Authorities are clearing mud at Jwangkhola, Bihani Pump and Baireni. Machinery has yet to reach Galaudi, while blockages remain at Jahare Khet and Bangemod.
