Government changes home secretary

Kathmandu, August 28: The government has changed the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Cabinet meeting held today decided to transfer Kedar Nath Sharma, who was serving as Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, to the Ministry of Home Affairs as its Secretary.

Raj Kumar Shrestha, who was serving as Home Secretary, has been transferred to the additional group at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Secretary Shrestha is due to retire compulsorily from August 31. A source at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers said the government has assigned Sharma to head the Home Ministry while keeping Shrestha in the reserve group as he is on the verge of retirement.

Similarly, the government has promoted Joint Secretary Indu Ghimire to the position of Secretary. The Cabinet meeting today decided to promote Ghimire to the Special Class (Secretary) and appoint her as Secretary of the Ministry of Defence.

The Promotion Recommendation Committee had recommended Ghimire for the position in the first rank. Based on the recommendation, the Cabinet appointed her as Secretary. Before her promotion, Ghimire was serving as Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Ghimire has been assigned responsibility for the Ministry of Defence following the transfer of Kedar Nath Sharma, who had been serving as Defence Secretary, to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
