Dr Jagaman Gurung has said that the King has “gone nowhere” and remains with the Nepali people, adding that what is needed now is to make him active.
Speaking at a programme held to unveil Swabhimani Nepali: Atmanirbhar Nepal (“Proud Nepali: Self-Reliant Nepal”), a resource publication of Rastriya Shakti Nepal, a political party chaired by Keshar Bista, Gurung said there was no point in urging Prime Minister Balendra Shah to restore the monarchy, as he would not do so.
“The King has gone nowhere; he is here with the Nepali people. Now, we need to make him active,” Gurung said.
He further urged the people themselves to take the initiative to restore an active role for the King.
Gurung said the resource book, Swabhimani Nepali: Atmanirbhar Nepal, should be distributed to households across the country and abroad, and used as a means of creating public awareness about the need to make the King active.
Senior advocate Dhurbalal Shrestha said that he had never considered himself a monarchist and had actively participated in political change. However, he said he had now come to the conclusion that the institution of monarchy was necessary to safeguard Nepal’s existence, independence and sovereignty.
Criticising the Constitution of 2015, Shrestha described it as a document designed to protect criminals, corrupt individuals and conspirators.
Senior journalist Youbraj Ghimire also expressed his views on the resource book published by Rastriya Shakti Nepal.
Other office-bearers of the party also addressed the programme.
