Kathmandu, Aug 25: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has taken disciplinary action against three of its Bagmati Province lawmakers for joining the provincial government despite repeated instructions from the party leadership to stay out.
RPP Chair Rajendra Lingden, following a recommendation from the party’s Central Disciplinary Committee, expelled provincial ministers Raju Bista, Rajendra Prajapati and Gir Bahadur Tamang from the provincial assembly.
The party said the three lawmakers repeatedly ignored its directives, parliamentary whip and decisions of the Central Working Committee before accepting positions in the Bagmati government.
RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha said the decision was communicated to the provincial assembly through a letter and statement signed by Lingden.
RPP Chief Whip Kumari Tamang formally submitted the expulsion letter to Bagmati Provincial Assembly Deputy Speaker Apsara Chapagain. The party also attached eight documents supporting the disciplinary action.
The latest move follows the RPP’s decision on Monday to remove Uddhav Thapa as leader of its Bagmati parliamentary party.
Thapa had backed CPN UML lawmaker Kiran Thapa Magar for the post of chief minister, despite the RPP leadership directing its lawmakers otherwise.
The disciplinary measures highlight the deepening rift within the RPP over its role in the Bagmati government and its approach to power sharing.
