
Kathmandu, Aug 16: Nepal’s life insurance companies posted a combined net profit of Rs5.45 billion in the last financial year 2025/26, down 10.52 per cent from the previous year.
The 14 life insurers earned a total net profit of Rs5.4452 billion in FY2025/26, a decline of Rs640.8 million from Rs6.086 billion recorded in FY2024/25.
IME Life Insurance recorded the highest profit during the year, earning Rs584.2 million, up marginally by 0.16 per cent from Rs583.3 million a year earlier.
Citizen Life posted the strongest growth in profit, with net earnings soaring 106.62 per cent to Rs390.8 million.
LIC Nepal increased its profit by 28.45 per cent to Rs405.777 million, while SuryaJyoti Life earned Rs380.219 million, an 8.54 per cent increase from the previous year.
Reliable Nepal Life’s profit rose 2.17 per cent to Rs582.602 million, while Sanima Reliance Life recorded a 1.68 per cent increase to Rs383.865 million.
Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life’s profit grew 1.30 per cent to Rs375.593 million, while Asian Life posted a 1.18 per cent increase to Rs414.2 million.
However, five life insurers saw their profits decline during the year, while one company moved into the red.
MetLife American’s net profit fell 55.28 per cent to Rs379.278 million. Himalayan Life recorded a 41.90 per cent decline to Rs317.771 million.
Sun Nepal Life’s profit dropped 22.83 per cent to Rs418.599 million, while Nepal Life’s earnings fell 15 per cent to Rs465.45 million.
National Life’s net profit also declined 10.22 per cent to Rs370.616 million.
Rastriya Jeevan Beema Company, which had posted a net profit of Rs21.477 million in FY2024/25, recorded a net loss of Rs23.801 million in FY2025/26.
