Though there seems to be a very strong government at the center with the support of nearly two thirds majority of Parliamentarians, the political scenario in the country still seems very instable. We must not forget that one of the most popular individual in the country, Prime Minister Balen Shah, right now is leading the present strong government but this doesn’t seem it is enough.
Quite naturally the older parties which were in power for a long, long period of time are against the newly born Rastra Swatantra Party (RSP), voices are also being heard within the RSP itself against PM Balen Shah. PM Shah seems to be doing his best to resolve which was actually created by the older parties. This is a very difficult task for the young Prime Minister.
He has showcased a lot of new policies and plans and for a change he has also started to speak more than what he did before. We, along with this author, believe that the PM has good intentions and his long term policies will definitely benefit the nation in the long run. But what the general public needs right now is action from the government that will have a direct impact on their day to day lives as soon as possible.
Take for instance the alarming rate of inflation in the local markets which seems to have no control. This especially has adversely affected hundreds of thousands middle class people, forget the poor citizens. Even their efforts to fulfill the basic needs have become a tough task. Only the corrupt and newly rich people have no problem.
This is a sad story of the conditions under which the majority of the Nepalese have to live. The prices of every item seem to be getting higher and higher every day. From lowly rated goods to upper class level items are getting costlier every day. For example this author who likes to eat street food find its prices being raised much more expensive and electronic and also garments are steadily going beyond the reach of the ordinary people.
The government for the past many decades has only increased taxes an easy way to fill the government coffers. The worst part is that the government is using such money for all the wrong causes. From buying very expensive vehicles providing perks for every useless meetings to going for fruitless foreign visits and also expensive medical treatments for political leaders are simply a waste of government funds which could instead have been used for development works and providing relief to the general public from the crushing inflation.
Leaders and other decision makers are always talking of good governance and socialism. The lesser earning people would dearly like to see such a system but it is not only them but the well to do people have also been hit hard. For example the taxes imposed by the government on vehicles, real estate deals and many other surprises of many so called luxury goods which actually don’t cost that much but these goods have reached such a distance just because of the high government taxes imposed on them.
It is not only unfair but also an irony that the government while not giving any relief to the people are yet day by day increasing the internal loans. Why do these political leaders, ministers, bureaucrats and also the security people need very expensive vehicles, other perks and also helpers all at the government costs. If a really serious government comes to power, these sorts of practices must be abolished at once. It is really sad that the government is spending mindlessly when the nation is going through a poor economy situation.
Though there is a strong government, it is once irony that attacks against the government has already started from different sides including the old parties and also some members who belong to the Rastra Swatantra Party against the PM Balen Shah. Many are still are of the belief that PM Shah is doing his best and all people without any vested interest should support him. The Balen government is definitely under attack.
