Kathmandu, Aug 11: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to visit Nepal in the last week of August to invite Prime Minister Balendra Shah to the BRICS Summit.
Unless something unforeseen happens in the meantime, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Nepal in the last week of August. He is coming to invite Prime Minister Balendra Shah to the 18th BRICS Summit, sources said.
The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India, on September 12 and 13, 2026.
India has previously invited Nepal’s prime minister to attend the BRICS Summit. Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prachanda, attended the summit held in India in October 2016 at India’s invitation.
Coincidentally, Prachanda, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting together during that visit.
This time too, India is preparing to invite Prime Minister Balendra Shah to participate in the BRICS Summit. Jaishankar is expected to travel to Kathmandu for that purpose.
BRICS currently includes Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
