
Kathmandu, Aug 9: Floods and landslides have blocked several highways across the country, police said.
The Mid Hill Highway in Tehrathum has been completely blocked. At around midnight on Saturday, a landslide carrying rocks and soil fell from about 30 to 35 metres above the road near Pingwa Khola in Kande, Laligurans Municipality, Ward 9, completely obstructing the highway.
The Araniko Highway has also been blocked in Sindhupalchok. A mudslide from above obstructed the road section at Dumre in Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality, Ward 9, on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Mechi Highway has remained blocked since June 6 in Ilam Municipality, Ward 9, after rain turned the road muddy and impassable for vehicles. Police said an alternative route is available.
The Araniko Highway at Jiro Kilo in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Ward 4, has remained completely blocked since June 14 after a landslide fell from above.
Similarly, the highway at Kodari in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Ward 2, has remained completely blocked since June 29 after a mudslide carrying rocks and soil came down from the Iku landslide area. The road at Liping in Bhotekoshi, Ward 2, was also completely blocked on July 17 after the road caved in, police said.
In Rasuwa, the Trishuli Mailung Syafrubesi unpaved road at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality, Ward 5, has remained completely blocked since July 6 after the Trishuli River eroded the road from below.
Likewise, the Bheri Corridor section of the Jajarkot Dolpa road at Rijegar Khola in Aathbiskot Municipality, Ward 6, Rukum West, has been completely blocked since July 4 after a mudslide carrying rocks and soil fell from above.
