Kathmandu, Aug 9: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has dismissed rumours of disagreements within his party or problems with the government, describing them as nothing more than speculation.
Addressing a programme in Kathmandu on Saturday evening, Lamichhane urged people to treat such rumours as “snacks” and not give them undue importance.
“Sometimes you hear rumours that something has gone wrong, something has fallen apart, that we are facing political difficulties or that there has been a dispute. Since it is the weekend, please take those rumours as snacks,” Lamichhane said. “Rumours are just snacks. They have no real value beyond that.”
Lamichhane said his party had made a commitment not merely to individuals but to history itself, leaving no room for it to back away from its promises.
“We have not made a promise from one person to another. We have made a promise to history. Therefore, none of us has the option of walking away from our promises and commitments,” he said.
He acknowledged that the government had also made promises, including creating jobs for large numbers of people, and that some commitments may not have been fulfilled within the promised timeframe.
“But we are not going to give up. We simply do not have the option of giving up,” Lamichhane said.
He argued that history does not always give countries and societies an opportunity to bring about major change.
“Society and history have given us an opportunity. We are merely its carriers, but you are the ones who can actually bring about change,” he said. “Our job is to create an environment in which you can do that work.”
