Kathmandu, July 20: The Department of Transport Management has announced that, effective Monday, applications for driving licences, licence renewals, and payment of related fees will be processed entirely through an online system.
In a public notice, the Department stated that under the new system, service seekers will be able to automatically fill in their personal details on the application form by scanning the QR code on their National Identity Card or the Citizen App. Licence fees and other applicable charges can also be paid online.
Keshav Khatiwada, Director of the Department, said that all technical preparations for the new system have been completed. He explained that, during the initial phase, applicants will only be required to visit the concerned office for the mandatory medical examination. However, applicants who are not enrolled in the Citizen App will continue to follow the existing procedure by manually entering their personal details when submitting their applications, Director Khatiwada added.
