Kathmandu, April 25: Former education minister and independent lawmaker Mahabir Pun has lashed out at Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) MP Bishwaraj Pokharel after sharing a viral video showing the latter scolding a school headmaster for not coming to the gate to receive him.
The video, which surfaced on Friday, shows Pokharel expressing displeasure that the headmaster did not welcome him at the school entrance. Pun reposted the clip on social media, criticizing the MP’s conduct.
Pun said that if Pokharel were under his leadership, he would have dismissed him on the spot and sent him home. He stressed that lawmakers are public servants and must carry out the work assigned by the people in their constituencies.
“I don’t even know which party he belongs to. If he were under me, I would have fired him immediately and sent him home. A lawmaker is a servant of the people and must do the work entrusted by the public,” Pun wrote.
He argued that elected representatives should dedicate their time and energy to serving citizens over their full term. Displaying arrogance over something as trivial as not being welcomed at the gate, he said, was unacceptable.
Pun added that Pokharel should either issue a public apology or face public recall, stating that such behavior undermines the dignity of the parliamentary position.
