Kathmandu, April 20: Gen Z Movement Nepal has demanded that the government immediately dismiss Home Minister Sudhan Gurung to ensure an impartial investigation into the serious allegations against him.
In a press statement issued on Monday by the movement’s spokesperson Vijay Shah, it was stated that remaining in office during the investigation could influence the process and would be a clear example of conflict of interest.
The statement argued that being investigated while holding ministerial office goes against basic ethics and legal principles, insisting that Gurung’s resignation is essential for fair justice.
The movement also urged the government led by Balen Shah not to turn the appointment and removal of ministers into a trivial and undignified game. It emphasized that decisions about cabinet appointments are serious political and moral matters, and responsible leadership must demonstrate maturity, foresight, and accountability.
“This is not an ordinary government; it represents the mandate earned through the blood sacrifice of 76 martyrs,” the statement said. “No one has the right to engage in cheap politics over the sacrifices of the people.” The movement also warned that any compromise or delay regarding good governance, transparency, and accountability would be unacceptable.
Gurung has come under controversy after reports surfaced of his partnership with controversial businessman Deepak Bhatt.
