Individuals setting Singh Durbar, parliament ablaze should also be punished: Sampang

Kathmandu, March 22: Following the arrest of CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Shram Sanskriti Party Chair Harka Sampang has issued a reaction.

Calling the current political developments an act of revenge, Sampang said those responsible for burning and vandalizing key state administrative buildings in the past should also be arrested and prosecuted.

Sharing his views on social media, Sampang remarked that people tend to understand his words late. He recalled that during a past program in Okhaldhunga, he had said that no matter who wins, politics of revenge would follow, while only his party would pursue politics of progress. Referring to the arrest of Oli and Lekhak, he claimed that the country will now witness only revenge-driven politics and continuous protests.

He stated: “People understand me late. I had said this in a program in Okhaldhunga. Whoever wins, there will be revenge politics. Only Labour Culture stands for progress. What will happen now is just this, protest after protest after protest.”

In this context, Sampang also pointed to incidents of vandalism during protests. Expressing anger toward those who destroyed state property, he said that those leading acts of arson and destruction at Singha Durbar, the Parliament building, the Supreme Court, and several government offices should be immediately arrested. He added that those involved in such acts must be detained and severely punished.
