Over 525,000 Nepalis leave for foreign jobs in eight months

Kathmandu, March 24: More than 525,000 Nepalis have gone abroad for employment in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.

According to official data, a total of 525,513 Nepalis left for foreign employment between mid July 2025 and mid-March 2026 in the fiscal year 2025 to 2026. Among them, 462,217 were men, and 63,296 were women.

In February and March alone, 52,943 individuals obtained labor permits to work overseas.

Among those receiving labor approval, 81,958 people secured individual labor permits, 185,220 obtained permits through recruitment agencies, and 251,983 received re-entry labor approvals for returning foreign workers.

Similarly, 5,998 workers went to South Korea and Israel under the government-to-government employment system. In addition, 354 Nepalis who had been working abroad without proper documents were legalised through regularisation procedures.
