RPP’s Oli to take oath in Sanskrit

Kathmandu, March 24: Proportional representation lawmaker Khushbu Oli of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) will take her oath of office in Sanskrit.

According to the schedule set by the Federal Parliament Secretariat for the oath-taking of newly elected members of the House of Representatives, Oli, who represents Jhapa, has chosen Sanskrit as the language for her oath.

The Secretariat had set Monday as the deadline for lawmakers wishing to take the oath in languages other than Nepali to register their names.

During that period, two dozen lawmakers from different parties, including Oli, submitted their details to take the oath in their mother tongues or other preferred languages.

The oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected lawmakers will be administered by senior most member, Arjun Narasingha KC.

Various languages will be used in the ceremony this time, including Nepal Bhasa (Newari), Maithili, Doteli, Tharu, Tamang, and Bantawa, among others.

According to the Secretariat, lawmakers who wish to take the oath in their mother tongues must submit a translated copy of the oath text in their chosen language to the Secretariat in advance.
