Kathmandu, March 23: The government has decided to set up a separate service desk at both arrival and departure areas of Tribhuvan International Airport for people of Nepali origin and non-resident Nepalis living abroad. The move is aimed at improving engagement with the global Nepali community.
The Department of Immigration said the plan is expected to bring overseas Nepalis closer to the country on a social and cultural level, while also encouraging travel and investment.
On Sunday, the department instructed the airport office to arrange the dedicated counters in both sections.
The Association of Nepali Origin, which had been pushing for such a facility for years, welcomed the step and said it had repeatedly raised the issue with authorities.
In a statement, the association thanked Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and the ministry for the decision. ANO President Dilli Adhikari said the move has given people of Nepali origin a sense of recognition and added that proper implementation would help strengthen their bond with Nepal.
