Kaski, March 23: A campaign titled “Let’s Go to Pokhara” has been launched targeting major cities in eastern Nepal to promote domestic tourism.
Organized by the Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) Pokhara, in coordination with the Nepal Tourism Board, Gandaki Province Office, the program began today and will run until March 26.
According to HAN Pokhara Chairperson Laxman Subedi, the campaign, which has been running for the past 22 years, will feature tourism promotion programs in cities such as Birgunj, Hetauda, Biratnagar, and Ilam.
A 19-member team, including tourism entrepreneurs, hotel operators, and media personnel from Pokhara, will engage with tourism stakeholders in eastern Nepal. The team will hold discussions, interactions, and distribute promotional materials.
Subedi said attractive domestic tourism packages will also be introduced during the campaign. He added that the program also aims to invite people from eastern Nepal to the 21st Fewa New Year Festival, held annually during the Nepali New Year.
The festival will take place from April 11 to April 13 along the Lakeside area of Fewa Lake. It focuses on promoting tourism, culture, and local cuisine while preserving Nepali art and traditions.
Chief of the Nepal Tourism Board, Gandaki Province, Maniraj Lamichhane, said the campaign will help position Pokhara as a top destination for tourists, noting that the city is already regarded as the tourism capital.
The program also aims to strengthen tourism partnerships between eastern Nepal and Pokhara. Plans include proposing the resumption of regular direct flights from Pokhara to cities such as Bhadrapur and Biratnagar, along with operating quality tourist bus services from those cities to Pokhara.
Subedi said around Rs 600 billion has been invested in Pokhara’s hotel sector alone, with about 1,200 hotels currently in operation.
The association stated that the hotel industry in Pokhara provides direct employment to around 15,000 people.
