Kathmandu, March 7: In the House of Representatives election, Khadga Bahadur Budha of the Nepali Congress has been elected from Jajarkot.
Budha secured 20,142 votes, defeating former Home Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) by a margin of 2,735 votes. Basnet received 17,407 votes. Similarly, Dambar Bahadur Singh of the CPN-UML obtained 16,883 votes, while Raghav Karki of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) secured 2,471 votes.
Budha had previously lost the 2017 election for the chairperson of Shivalaya Rural Municipality. However, he is considered a well-known leader among the youth in the district. Emerging from student politics, he has served as the district vice-president and acting president of the party.
Budha is a candidate from the western part of the district, while most of the other candidates were from eastern Jajarkot. According to locals, since the western region had not received a candidate for a long time, Budha also benefited from sympathy votes.
