Kathmandu – Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed grief over those who lost their lives during the peaceful protests called by “Gen Z” on September 8 and 9. He also wished speedy recovery for all those injured, according to a statement released by his personal secretary, Bhanu Deuba.
The statement condemned what it called “unimaginable terror” created by various groups from the morning of September 9, allegedly to hijack the protest for their own malicious motives. It said party offices and private residences of political leaders were attacked in criminal acts.
According to the statement, individuals broke into Deuba’s residence in a robbery-like fashion and carried out violent attacks targeting Deuba, his wife and central committee member Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, and others.
Bhanu Deuba said that despite this heinous criminal act, fabricated reports have been circulated on social media alleging that large amounts of cash were found in Deuba’s residence, that burnt banknotes were scattered inside the compound, and that there was a money “tunnel.”
The statement called these claims fictional, exaggerated, and malicious, accusing their promoters of trying to defame the party and its leadership. “There is no truth to such rumors, especially those spread on social media, and videos showing an ‘underground’ tank inside the house are being misrepresented. I want to clarify that it is simply a water tank,” the statement read.
It also claimed that some videos and photos circulating on YouTube and social media were edited by splicing together unrelated footage of burnt banknotes from various places and times, using technology with the intent to humiliate the leadership and mislead the public.
