‘The 2025 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road’ is commencing from September 16 to September 17, in Kunming, Yunnan Province with the theme of ‘Shared Media Responsibility for Exchanges and Mutual Learning among Civilization’. The flagship annual event of China’s popular People’s Daily has been a major media gathering for a decade. People’s Daily is the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, one of the most influential newspapers in China. With the aim to promote media cooperation and build connections, the forum has grown into a high-end dialogue and communication platform for policy-makers, media practitioners, entrepreneurs and scholars. A series of interactive sessions exploring diverse topics such as Media’s role in fluid international landscape, Media opportunity and challenges in the AI era, Regional Collaboration and Global Communication are being attended by a select group of media leaders and decision-makers from various countries. The forum aligns with China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to enhance economic cooperation and connectivity among countries along the ancient Silk Road, contributing to the promotion of cultural and civilizational exchanges among peoples.
The forum, with participation from diverse media entities to showcase the positive practices of the Belt and Road Initiative and underscore its contribution to global development. The forum serves as a significant platform for dialogue and exchange among media professionals from various countries. Sharachchandra Bhandary, Executive Editor at the National News Agency (RSS), who is participating in the forum states that the forum provides a valuable opportunity for the exchange of experiences and ideas among media organizations worldwide. He highlighted that the Belt and Road Initiative has opened up new horizons for international communication and cooperation, noting the significant attention that Chinese President Xi Jinping places on media cooperation within the framework of the initiative. He also mentioned that the Belt and Road Initiative seeks development and mutual benefit, aligning with global trends of peace and cooperation.
Bhandary stressed the importance of enhancing communication and understanding between peoples and cultures in today’s interconnected world. He pointed to the pivotal role of the media in bringing people closer together, breaking down barriers, and promoting tolerance and mutual respect. He also highlighted the strong relations between Nepal and China recalling a recent visit of outgoing Prime Minister KP Oli. He explained that cooperation agreements covering key sectors such as tourism, industry, technology, and media, as well as China’s Belt and Road Initiative, will contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. He also touched upon RSS as well as People’s Review Weekly’s efforts in knowledge exchange and media partnerships with Chinese media institutions.
