Against the One-China policy adopted by the government, the birthday of Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader was observed in the presence of the US and French ambassadors in Kathmandu.
The birthday was marked in Boudhha recently, reported Janaastha, a weekly vernacular.
The 89th birthday of Dalai Lama was marked by cutting cake at Helmo monastery of Boudhha.
A cultural programme was also organised on the occasion which was graced by the US and French ambassadors. A representative from the Australian Embassy also attended the function. In the two-hour celebration, about 200 persons, including Nepal representative of Dalai Lama Nwang Chhodup and donation collector Shambhu Lama, were present.
Earlier, the Tibetan community requested the Kathmandu Administration Office in writing to cooperate with their programme. In the letter, Dalai’s representative Nwang, Bouddha-based refugee camp chief Phurbu and secretary Karma Gyalejen had requested to manage security during the programme.
The way the birthday of Dalai was marked showed that anti-China activities are again rising in Kathmandu.
