National Paddy Day turns just a fun

By Our Reporter

The National Paddy Day was marked on Saturday across the country with much fanfare with leaders from the President to the Prime Minister participating in the paddy plantation activities.

President Ramchandra Paudel was seen preparing a paddy field with a spade in his hand in Kathmandu while Prime Minister Pushpa Kamala Dahal was seen planting paddy using a machine in Chitwan.

Official paddy plantation programmes were organised in Pokhara and other cities whereas the genuine farmers in villages were struggling to get fertilisers and adequate water to irrigate their paddy fields.

Of course, the government has been organising posh programmes on the Paddy Plantation Day every year, but the farmers as well as the entire agriculture sector have been facing several problems, While farmers are not getting fertilisers and irrigation facilities during plantation season, they are also unable to have markets for their produce. As a results, the farmers express ire by spilling milk and tomatoes on the road. Because of wrong policies of the government, Nepal has been importing paddy, maize, millet and wheat in a huge amount every year.
