Seven-point agreement between NC and UML

Kathmandu, July 2: The Nepali Congress and UML have inked a seven-point agreement for running the coalition government.

NC’s president Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli inked the agreement at midnight.

Also, both the leaders agreed to call other political parties for a national consensus government.

Below is the agreement:

Oli to lead the new coalition government for two years and Deuba to lead the government for the remaining period and hold the election.

UML to lead the Koshi, Lumbini and Karnali province governments and NC to lead the Bagmati, Gandaki and Soodor Paschim governments. Allowing the Tarai-based parties to lead the government in Madhesh Province.

Amending the constitution by managing those elected through proportional election to the National Assembly. Assigning the responsibility of the National Assembly chair to the Vice President.

Reviewing the present number of seats in the House of Representatives and National Assembly.

Reducing the existing number of 753 local bodies by adding the number of ward committees.

Forming a committee to review the constitution under the chair of ex-chief justice Kalyan Shrestha.

Removing the provision of a proportional election system from the province elections.
