Kathmandu, July 1: The top leaders of the big three parties formed a task force to resolve the issues related to transitional justice. On Thursday, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, UML chair KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba agreed to form a task force with one member from each of the three parties to resolve the issue related to transitional justice.
Mahesh Bertaula, chief whip of UML informed that a task force consisting of one member from each of the three parties has been formed to finalize the TRC bill and prepare a proposal.
According to him, the task force consists of chief whip Ramesh Lekhak from the Nepali Congress, Mahesh Bertaula from the UML and Deputy Secretary General Janardan Sharma from the Maoist Center.
Bertaula informed that the task force will discuss and prepare a proposal with the remaining issues and submit it to the top leadership. He said that the task force would discuss the points of disagreement in the previous draft and form a common opinion. The leaders said that although there was agreement on most of the points of the TRC Bill, there was no agreement on four points
UML chair KP Sharma Oli analyzed that Maoist Chairman and Prime Minister Dahal and NC president Deuba had a vested interest in reducing the punishment of the perpetrators rather than giving justice to the victims when they were in the opposition. UML is in favor of punishing those who committed serious violations of human rights and not giving amnesty. The government has not taken concrete steps to complete the peace process and transitional justice after the new power balance.
