Cabinet meeting today likely to recall ambassadors assigned under the NC’s quota

Kathmandu, June 6: A cabinet meeting scheduled for today may decide to recall those ambassadors assigned under the Nepali Congress quota.

Today’s cabinet meeting will also decide on Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal’s proposed Delhi visit to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The oath-taking ceremony of PM Modi is taking place on Saturday.

The government is planning to recall eight ambassadors including the ambassador to India and the USA.

Nepal’s ambassador to India Dr Shankarprasad Sharma, ambassador to London Gyanchandra Acharya, ambassador to the USA Professor Dr Sridhar Khatri, ambassador to Israel Kanta Rijal, ambassador to South Korea Professor Dr Jyoti Pyakurel (Bhandari), ambassador to Qatar Naresh Bikram Dhakal and ambassador to Malaysia Dilliraj Paudel.

The government has also decided to cancel the appointment of Shanil Nepal as the ambassador to Portugal. Shanil Nepal was rewarded with the ambassadorial position even by opening a new embassy in Portugal for his decision to give a clean chit to NC leader Gyanendra Karki on a corruption scam from the CIAA.

Accordingly, Durgabahadur Subedi, who was appointed the ambassador to Japan under the recommendation of Dr Arzu Rana, spouse of Ser Bahadur Deuba, is likely to be recalled by the government, reports Kathmandu Pati news portal. Subedi is roaming around different power centers to save his post.
