
Kathmandu, May 2: The Clean Himal Campaign Team of the Nepal Army has collected more than 1,900 kg of waste from the Himalayas including Mt Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest). The team of the Nepali Army has collected a total of 1,943 kg of waste till Sunday.
The waste collected is both biodegradable and non-biodegradable. Lamakaji Sherpa, president of the Everest Pollution Control Committee, informed that the Clean Himal Campaign is ongoing.
He said, “The work of garbage collection is going on, now the Nepali Army is collecting it in the base camp, there is a plan to bring the combustible type to Namche and destroy it and take the non-burnable to Kathmandu.”
He believes that the campaign will be successful in maintaining the cleanliness of the mountains as garbage is piling up in the mountains due to human activities. The Clean Himal Campaign team is working in coordination with Everest National Park, Everest Pollution Control Committee, Intermediate Area Management Committee, local bodies and intellectuals, and heads/representatives of various organizations.
This campaign, which is being run with the main intention of an endeavor to save the Himalayas, aims to collect around 10 tons of garbage and five human corpses from various camps of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse mountains has been taken.
The Nepal Army campaign for Clean Himal will be concluded on June 5, International Environment Day.
