Renowned for his versatility, Rudra Shekhar Sharma, affectionately known as RUDY, is a captivating singer who enchants audiences with his multifaceted and multilingual talent. Hailing from Jhapa, Nepal, Singer Sharma’s passion for music blossomed early in life, nurtured by his parents Bhumika Devi Upadhyay and Ganga Prasad Sharma. Throughout his schooling, Sharma actively participated in cultural pursuits, and upon relocating to Kathmandu, he found his aspiration to pursue a career in music intensifying with the expanded opportunities in the capital.
While pursuing his education in Kathmandu, Sharma diligently attended singing classes at multiple institutes, honing his craft and embracing modern musical styles. His exceptional talent quickly garnered attention within the music industry, propelling him to success in a remarkably short span of time. Singer Sharma soon rose to prominence among the leading singers of his time and his contributions to Nepali music earned him accolades Best New Singer award at the Rapti National Music Awards ceremony in the year 2018.
Despite the presence of established luminaries in the industry, Singer Sharma carved out his own niche, actively contributing to the Nepali music scene for over twelve years. In 2074 BS, he released his debut album “RUPAM“, which received widespread acclaim, featuring five soul-stirring tracks that resonated deeply with listeners and critics alike. “RUPAM” released by singer Sharma, who has been singing singles, is his first album. Even amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Rudy continued to release poignant songs like “Devadut Haau Timi,” dedicated to frontline healthcare workers, showcasing his commitment to both his artistry and social responsibility.
Singer Sharma said, “I am very fond of singing in different languages. In my opinion, music has no language or boundaries, it is a practice and can be achieved only through the practice“.
Singer Sharma’s notable song’s “Maya Mari, Maile Chheke Daura ra Suruwal, Timi Bhanchhau Jun Ramro, Dukhdina Ma, Kina, Tadpiyera Kati Bachnu, Barshau Bityo, Sital Tapnu, Kahile Aanshuma, Devduta Hau Timi and hindi song’s Dil De Diya, Jina Abhi Banki hai” etc. each garnering significant attention for their artistic merit and societal relevance. His profound impact on Nepali music has been duly recognized.
Beyond his musical endeavors, Sharma is actively involved in social work through numerous organizations, tirelessly advocating for the promotion of Nepali art and culture both at home and abroad. He firmly believes in the unifying power of music to transcend cultural boundaries, fostering greater understanding and appreciation of diverse traditions worldwide.
In addition to his singing career, Singer Sharma is deeply committed to promoting Nepali arts and culture globally, Joined organizations like the Film and Artists Worker’s Organization Nepal (FAWON), National Folk Culture Association and the Rastriya Sangeet Udhog Sangh to empower and amplify cultural institutions. Despite his background as an engineer, Rudra Shekhar Sharma has successfully pursued his dream of becoming a singer, navigating the challenges of balancing multiple professions while establishing himself as a prominent figure in the Nepali music Industry.
Sharma’s versatility extends beyond language barriers, as he also showcases his talent in Hindi songs, believing fervently in music’s ability to bridge cultural divides and foster cross-cultural dialogue. With a steadfast dedication to representing Nepali culture on the world stage, Singer Sharma endeavors to promote mutual respect and cultural exchange, embodying the spirit of unity through his artistry.
“Kina” is the latest ghazal song by singer Rudra Shekhar Sharma. Singer Sharma has also received the best ghazal singer award at the National Inclusive Music Award-2024 (NIM Award) through “Kina”. Singer Sharma won the best ghazal singer award in the recent award held at Square Hotel in Lalitpur beating famous singer Sangeeta Rana Pradhan, famous singer Shashi Vikram Thapa, famous singer Keshav Paudel and Raj Sigdel. Likewise, his next song “K Hola Bholi,” set to Popular Music Director Dipak Sharma’s music, is currently in underproduction and be released soon.
