Kathmandu, April 25: The newly constructed Integrated Customs Checkpoint (ICP) at Nepalgunj checkpoint is going to be operational within two weeks. As India has already constructed ICP and handed it over to Nepal, within 10/15 days, the customs office will start its operation, said Dhurvaraj Bishwakarma, chief customs officer of the Nepalgunj customs office.
He informed that after the operation of ICP, the inspection of cargo vehicles will be done from the same place. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated IPS through ‘virtual‘ means during Dahal’s visit to India last year.
Almost a year after its inauguration, India handed over the Nepalgunj ICP to the Government of Nepal. After a decade and a half of agreement between the government of Nepal and India, the ICP was built at Nepalganj trade point. On behalf of the government of India, the consulting company “Rights” handed over the ICP to the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply of the Government of Nepal.
