New expedition route to climb Mt Sagarmatha

Kathmandu, April 19: The Tourism Ministry has brought into operation a new expedition route to climb Mt. Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) this spring.

Rakesh Gurung, director of the Adventure Expedition Division of the Tourism Ministry, said that the route that was used earlier until 2014 has been brought into operation.

The eight icefall doctors (experienced Sherpas deployed for the construction of the trekking route), have developed this old route for the climbers scaling Mt. Sagarmatha.

This new route, although it was in use ten years ago, has been developed from the Sagarmatha basecamp to the second basecamp.

Due to the melting of ice on the route in use after 2014, the icefall doctors developed the new route as the ice in the area is fixed and comperatively strong.
