Kathmandu, March 11: The closing and prize distribution ceremony of the 9th Edition of Nepal-Pakistan Friendship T20 Cricket Tournament-2024” concluded on Sunday, March 10 amidst a function. The event, which commenced on March 2 was participated by twelve teams from various clubs.
Shiva Koirala (Jwala), Vice President, National Sports Council, Nepal, chief guest of the ceremony, awarded the trophy to the winning team of Cricket Excellence Centre Kathmandu. Whereas Lee Cricket won the runners-up trophy.
Special guests, including Golam Sarwar, Secretary General, SAARC, Ms. Noha Hamdy Ahmed Elgebaly, Ambassador of Egypt, Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, Ambassador of Bangladesh and Xie Yu Economic and Commercial Counsellor, Chinese Embassy, Utsav Dhungana, General Manager, Cricket Association of Nepal, Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha, Chairman, Himalayan Bank and Ashoke SJB Rana, chief executive officer, Himalayan Bank, were present on the occasion.
Besides, journalists, civil society representatives, and sports lovers also attended the ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, Shiva Koirala lauded the Pakistan Embassy’s initiative in successfully organizing the event. He added that the event is now on the sporting calendar of Kathmandu and is a manifestation of close relations between Nepal and Pakistan.
In his remarks, Ambassador of Pakistan Abrar H. Hashmi congratulated the winning teams and lauded the organizers for successfully materializing the event. He added that the tournament contributed to providing opportunities to emerging cricket players in Nepal. This yearly event since 2014 has been an avenue to forge strong relations between both countries.
The Ambassador committed to continuing to bring the youths of the two countries together by organizing such events in future as well. The Ambassador extended his gratitude to Himalayan Bank Limited for supporting the event.
