CPN-UML chairman KP Sharma Oli has been trying his best to woo Madhav Kumar Nepal to join the new UML-Maoist coalition. On Monday, he made a call to leader Nepal who is taking a rest at his Koteshwor residence from Baluwatar and on Tuesday he reached Nepal’s residence taking Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and two influential UML leaders–Bishnu Paudel and Shankar Pokharel.
It is noteworthy to mention here that Nepal broke the CPN-UML in 2021 after Oli dissolved the House. Nepal also played a key role in ousting Oli from power and appointing Sher Bahadur Deuba new PM. Over the years, Oli has had a single goal—to eliminate Nepal and his party from the political scenario. But Nepal’s CPN (Unified Socialist) won 10 seats in the House of Representatives in the 2022 election.
Now Oli and PM Dahal together are trying to include Madhav Kumar Nepal in the new coalition, probably realising that the Maoist Centre and the UML will not be able to form government in Gandaki and Bagmati without Nepal’s backing. Also, Dahal does not want to leave Nepal alone, because he and Nepal were together in their fight against Oli until November 2022, after the latter dissolved the House in December 2020.
It is not sure whether Nepal agrees to the new coalition, but if he agrees, chances of unification between the Unified Socialist and UML will be high in the near future, which will make the UML the largest party in the House of Representatives.
