PM says, loan shark problem can be resolved only by court

Kathmandu, February 29: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the problem of loan sharks can be solved only through the court process.

PM Dahal said that the loan documents developed by the money lenders are legally strong, thus, it has become difficult to give justice to the real victims of the loan sharks.

Responding to the questions asked by the parliamentarians in the National Assembly’s Concerns and Coordination Committee, Prime Minister Dahal said that he is coordinating with the court for that. He said that there are not only economic but also deep social problems with meter interest.

“The government is aware of the problems of loan shark victims, cooperative borrowers, and microfinance victims. By forming the commission, we tried to solve the loan shark problem. We are doing things even after making the law. However, the rest of the problems are of a nature to be resolved through the court process rather than by the government,” said the PM.

“The loan shark problem is not a current problem, it has been going on for a long time. The papers make the loan lenders appear stronger than the victims. Therefore, the government is seriously coordinating the depth of this matter with the court. We are also negotiating with the victims. We are saying that we will solve the problem through dialogue,” he said.
