PM Dahal trying to become close towards UML

By Our Reporter

Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal is now trying to be close with the CPN-UML thanks to the NC’s Mahasamiti meeting, in which NC vice president Purna Bahadur Khadka raised questions about the relevancy of the insurgency waged by the Maoists, and general secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa presented a proposal not to forge a pre-election alliance in the future.

The comments made by the Khadka, Thapa and other leaders about the Maoists in the Mahasamiti meeting have made the Maoist leaders suspicious about the role of the ruling alliance party.

In the party’s standing committee meeting held in Parish Danda on Tuesday, the Maoist leaders not only criticised the reports of NC Vice President Khadka and General Secretary Thapa, but also asked the leadership to be ready to rethink the alliance with the NC.

Maoist leaders Janardan Sharma, Brashaman Pun, Haribol Gajurel and Devendra Paudel said that the party should seek NC’s view on the Maoist-waged insurgency.

The Maoist leaders criticised the NC at a time when party chair Dahal has shown a liberal attitude towards the UML.

The Maoists who were unhappy with the NC after the National Assembly elections in which one of the Maoist candidates lost the election in Koshi, were angered more by the political and organizational reports of NC presented in the Mahasamiti meeting. Considering the flexible attitude of Dahal, it will not be a wonder if Dahal joins the UML by quitting the present alliance with the NC in the near future.
