Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kirati, inaugurated the Sunatharali Airport in Kalikot, a remote district in West Nepal, amidst a function on February 26 along with the landing of a Twin Otter aircraft belonging to the Nepal Airlines Corporation.
It took 20 minutes to reach Kalikot when the Twin Otter aircraft took off from Surkhet. The aircraft took off from Surkhet at 11 am, and landed at the Sunathali Airport in Kalikot at 11.20 am.
After that inaugural flight, the Corporation, along with the availability of STOL fleets, has scheduled to operate flights to different remote destinations in the Karnali province from Surkhet, including Humla, Jumla, Mugu, and Dolpa, and to expand flights to other districts of Karnali region in the near future.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka and Civil Aviation Minister Kirati gave special instructions to the Corporation for operating air service in remote areas. Meanwhile, Nepal Airlines Corporation’s executive chairman, Ubraj Adhikari, expressed his commitment to operating air service in the remote part of Western Nepal at a nominal airfare after the availability of necessary STOL aircraft for the Corporation.
