Maoists’ statute convention begins

By Our Reporter

The ruling CPN (Maoist Centre) has convened its first statute convention in Kathmandu, immediately after holding its central committee meeting.

In the central committee meeting that concluded on Monday, many leaders of the CPN (Maoist Centre) expressed their views against the Nepali Congress accusing it of betrayal in the National Assembly election in Koshi. Many of the influential leaders like Barsha Man Pun said that the party should think of ending the present coalition.

When the common candidate of the ruling party picked from the Maoist Centre to the National Assembly suffered defeat in Koshi, the Maoist leaders argued that NC betrayed them

In the election, the ruling parties had fielded common candidates in all seven provinces in the NA elections held on January 25. But Champa Karki of the Maoist Centre lost the election to CPN UML’s Rukmini Koirala in Koshi while Krishna Sitaula of NC, the common candidate of the ruling alliance won.

However, the central committee meeting did not decide to end the coalition in the meeting and began its statute convention.

Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ inaugurated the first Statute Convention of the party in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

According to Dev Prasad Gurung, General Secretary of the CPN (Maoist Centre), discussions were carried out on the proposed statute by forming 20 groups each consisting of 50 to 55 members. He said that each group held a discussion on the draft statute till Wednesday 1 pm and presented their conclusion before the plenary later in the evening.

The Statute will be finalised based on the suggestions received from all 20 groups.

More than 1,200 delegates including central members, alternate central members, three central commission members, officials of seven provinces and officials of sister organisations were present at the conference.

The three-day conference will conclude on Thursday.
