Occupying government property by producing forgery documents has become very common in Nepal. Still, some good people in the government organs are performing good jobs, but they are unable to punish the culprits due to the political protection that the political parties are providing to them.
Recently, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police arrested noted businessman Arun Chaudhary, younger brother of the only US dollar millionaire and also the Member of Parliament from the Nepali Congress, Binod Chaudhary, on the charge of occupying 10 bighas of land belonging to the Bansbari Leather and Shoe Factory.
Immediately after the arrest of Arun Chaudhary, the concerned authorities are facing pressure for the release of the alleged culprits.
The Tribhuvan International Airport has become the smuggling hub and also the hub for gold smuggling. Quintals of gold are being smuggled via the international airport. The police are unable to arrest the real owner of the gold, however, junior-level porters are being arrested. The government forms a commission but never makes public the reports. When a huge quantity of gold was smuggled, the then K.P. Oli-led government formed a commission and the commission submitted a report but Oli kept that report secret.
The Lalitaniwas government land grab episode was stopped when the investigation reached the level of former prime ministers Madhav Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai; the fake Bhutani refugees scandal was stopped when the investigation reached the level of the spouse of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Won’t the present investigation be stopped when there appears the name of Binod Chaudhary?
Be that as it may, the present system cannot deliver good things except for corruption and scandals.
