Kathmandu, February 1: The Election Commission is preparing for the by-elections. The Commission has started initial discussions with the government about holding by-elections in the coming Baisakh (April).
Shaligram Sharma Paudel, spokesperson for the Commission, informed that the EC is consulting with the government authorities to announce the date of the by-elections for the vacant positions at the local level, province assemblies, and federal parliament. He informed that the Commission is going to consult with the government about announcing the date of the election to hold by-elections in the coming April. About the by-elections, they are going to proceed after consulting with the Prime Minister in a few days.
According to the Commission, a total of 25 posts are vacant, including those in the House of Representatives, provincial assemblies, district coordination committees, and local levels, of which two are for the head of the District Coordination Committee. 17 ward president posts are vacant. One post of the municipality deputy chief, one post of the rural municipality chief, and two posts of the ward chief are vacant.
One post for a member of the House of Representatives and a member of the Provincial Assembly is vacant. Ilam-2 House of Representatives in Koshi province and Bajhang constituency in Far West are vacant. 23 representatives passed away, and the posts became vacant. Two ward chair posts have become vacant after being elected as the heads of the district coordination committee.
