The well-planned delay and indifference shown by the government in going ahead with the investigation into the Dasdhunga tragedy and its shrewdly mysterious silence over the issue of Girija’s resignation are seen generating feelings of discontent and anxiety among the rank and file of the UML which is very badly involved in its accord with the Nepali Congress.
Thirty-dollar Feast for Bhattarai
Nepal’s ambassador to the USA, Yog Prasad Upadhyaya organized a feast in honor of NC President Krishna Prasad Bhattarai in Washington, D.C. on October 11. The feast was arranged on a coupon basis, according to which a fee of 30 dollars per coupon was raised.
At the feast, some participants questioned Bhattarai about Girija’s resignation. Hesitatingly, Bhattarai asked them to put the question to Girija himself because he too was in America.
Interpreting these developments, political analysts point out that in case the element of honesty with the ruling party towards implementing the accord and the amount of patience begins to decline in this way, there will be nothing surprising if the post-Dashain-Tihar climate does not become warmer than what should be the seasonal impact with the political temperature taking the mercury unusually up.
