NAC to build new headquarters in Sinamangal

Kathmandu, January 28: Nepal Airlines Corporation is going to build a new head office on the land in Sinamangal. Bhoomi Poojan (laying foundation stone) ritual was done on Saturday, January 27, to build the head office on the land of the Corporation, which has an area of ​​34 ropani, 14 annas, two paisa, and three dams.

According to the spokesperson of the corporation, Ramesh Paudel, the Bhoomi Poojan ceremony was held on Saturday as per the plan to move the headquarters to Sinamangal under the construction, ownership, operation, and transfer (BOOT) model. 

He said, “Though discussions, policy decisions, and detailed project proposals were prepared at various times regarding the transfer of the head office to Sinamangal, it could not go to the construction stage”. 

“The process has been started now,” he said.

Bhoomi Poojan was held after the decision of the corporation management to construct a building with an in-flight kitchen. He said that further discussions will continue regarding what to do with the New Road building where the headquarters is currently located.

At present, the Corporation has been paying a large amount of rent for the use of structures inside the Tribhuvan International Airport. He said that after the construction of the new building, millions of rupees worth of rent will be saved annually, and additional income can be generated by renting out some of the parts of the headquarters building. Similarly, he said that the building of New Road, where the headquarters is currently located, will be given for commercial purposes and income will also be generated from it.

Rishikesh Panthi, vice-president of the Corporation Employees Union, said that since the land of Sinamangal is being encroached upon, preparations are being made to build the headquarters. According to him, a detailed project report was prepared for the first time in the year 2061 BS for the construction of headquarters in Sinamangal, but the work did not proceed.

Similarly, a detailed project report was prepared for the second time in 2063 BS. He said that despite many studies, debates and discussions on the report, the work could not be progressed. He informed that now the building construction process is progressing based on the detailed project proposal made in the year 2066 BS.

Earlier, the corporation had taken a policy decision in the year 2073 BS to demolish the headquarters of New Road and build a modern complex. At that time, the management of the Corporation decided to demolish the existing building and construct a building for commercial purposes and move the headquarters to Sinamangal. At present, the headquarters building has an area of ​​14 ropani, seven annas, one paisa, one dam.

Founded in 2015 BS as the Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation (RNAC), the Corporation currently has land and buildings in 23 places including Kathmandu, Morang, Banke, Mustang, Kaski, Dang, Rupandehi, Surkhet, Gorkha, Sankhuwasabha, Kanchanpur, Kailali, Parsa, Jumla, Khotang, Humla and Baitadi. There are land and buildings everywhere. There are more than nine bighas of land in three places in Banke. The Corporation has been collecting rents annually from places like Banke, Biratnagar and Pokhara.
